“Who do YOU say I am?”

“Who do you say I am?”

****************************************

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(B) others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”(C)

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

In the above text, we find Jesus going about His business doing what only He could. He continues to journey northward until He walks up on His disciple and ask them one of the most profound question in the Bible. Jesus put this question to his followers. Who do you say I am?” Jesus challenge the disciples to assess the true level of their faith. It is an affecting and very human moment. A moment in time, that Jesus was well aware of the buzz of conversation that His work of miracles were causing “I Am” is an important phrase throughout the Bible. The “I Am” statements can be found in all four gospels, Exodus and continue into Revelation. The I AM’s pulls you into total agreement with God. They give life to your true identity and calling in Christ Jesus.

Life is amazing in that we can get so busy doing things that we never take the time to discover who God created us to be and what He called us to do.

We all embody different titles such as mom, wife, daughter, sister, and whatever career path that you have taken with a title attached to it. Perhaps, you are serving in some type of ministry in your local church.

So, my question to you is have you stopped to ask God the question: “Who do you say that I am?” By God’s Grace you aren’t who you used to be but not quite walking in your identity as God’s daughter. Sure, you know what you like and dislike, you know what you are good at and what you aren’t good at. Yes, you even know what your favorite things are, You even know your gifts, talents, and abilities but do you know what it mean to live life having fully embracing your identity and inheritance in Christ. You know, I’ll be the first to admit that life can throw some pretty painful punches. I can remember going through my divorce and how dark and dreary life had became to me. In the midst of going through, I purposely threw myself into going back to school, working, and taking care of my kids. I welcome any distraction to avoid dealing with the pain of divorce.  I went from being a married a stay-at-home mom to starting over with five small children. I went from living to merely existing to try to do things I believed would make me feel “good enough” I became distracted from focusing on the things that really matter. You may be in the going through season right now. Sooner or later, we have to lay our burdens down at the feet of Jesus. Stop trying to micromanage life just allow the small things and big things to happen. We have to consciously make up our minds and decide to allow God to direct our steps and to relinquish everything that is interrupting us from living our true purpose – to worship and have fellowship with Him, be a good steward over the life He had given us and to allow Him to reveal the good works He planned for us and who He created us to be.

When we make time for a relationship with the Lord, He changes our perspectives and our pursuits, He restores our souls, heals our hearts and helps us step into our God-given identities and callings. Through His love, I realized that I am enough and that my past do not define me. I’m not ashamed of my story. God didn’t call me in spite of who I am but because of who I am in Christ.  I am transparent because other women need me to be so they can tell their stories without shame and be who God called them to be.

It doesn’t matter how your story began, what you’ve been through, or what you may be going through right now when you choose to believe in Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with the Father, He will fill your story with His grace and glory. Lastly, He will reveal who He say you are through relationship with Him.

  1. Amen...We are all trying to stay in the correct path during this Christian journey. Sometimes I have to reach way down and catch myself and take a look at myself, when I feel something is directing me other than Jesus Christ. So, I know that I cannot do anything without the Greatest in which he is...the one who made Heaven and Earth. Daily, I am so thankful and greatful for all he has done for me and everyone. Additionally, I know that we must continue to look towards the hills in which all of our help is received. I truly appreciate your enlightenment and spiritual journey in which you have chosen to fulfill and share. Your words are beautiful and meaningful, so continue to spiritually reach out. I LOVE YOU MORE...
